à convite do coletivo chileno club de té, em seu projeto "phenomenal woman", escolhi representar kim bok-dong, uma das sobreviventes do traumático episódio das mulheres de conforto, sendo escravizada sexualmente dos seus 14 até 21 anos de idade pelas tropas do japão imperial. desde então, ela lutou para que a sua história e de 200 mil outras mulheres (de maioria coreana, mas também chinesas e filipinas) fosse reconhecida pelo governo japonês. faleceu em 2019, sem ainda receber uma desculpa formal do Japão.
desenhei-a ao lado de uma estátua que representa as mulheres de conforto, chamada 평화의 소녀상 (estátua da paz), que foram erguidas na frente de embaixadas japonesas em seul e busan, na coreia do sul, e também se encontra outras cidades ao redor do mundo com grande concentração de imigrantes coreanos, como nos eua, canadá e austrália.
kim bok-dong, assim como várias outras ativistas pelas mulheres de conforto, representam uma luta pela memória do que jamais deve ser esquecido na história mundial.

i was invited by the chilean club de té, for their project "phenomenal woman" i chose to represent kim bok-dong, one of the survivors of the traumatic episode of the comfort women, being sexually enslaved from 14 to 21 years old by the troops of imperial japan. since then, she has fought for her story and that of 200,000 other women (mostly korean, but also chinese and filipino) to be recognized by the Japanese government. she passed away in 2019, still without receiving a formal apology from Japan.
i drew her next to a statue representing comfort women, called 평화의 소녀상 (statue of peace), which was erected in front of the japanese embassies in seoul and busan, south korea, and there are also other cities around the world with a high concentration of korean immigrants, as in the us, canada and australia.
kim bok-dong, like many other comfort women activists, represents a struggle for the memory of what must never be forgotten in world history.
